On one hand, I admire Baby Boomers tremendously, they have changed many social attitudes with their unprecedented tolerance of others, made it okay to be "different" and alternative. But on the other hand, they often frustrate me. Many of the boomers I know, however good their intentions, operate from a me-right-now framework instead of one that protects the future for their (our) children. They (we) relate all their thoughts and actions to how it impacts them and their personal priorities. That's a sweeping generalization that doesn't apply to all individuals, and applies to all of us sometimes. I don't know if its too late for the Baby Boom generation to truly transform society away from the old ruling paradigms of materialism. They are pretty much the generation in power right now, and yet there is still an enormous amount of defending the status quo and
difficulty in addressing global warming, or universal health care, or economic inequality, or any of the old unworkable systems. Now that they're on top, are baby boomers interested in defending the old rules instead of making new ones? I don't know. And I do worry, because they're going to be in power a long time.
