1. Because the 24 percent of Americans who call themselves “spiritual but not religious” have no real spiritual home.

2. Because more than 50 million of us  -- spiritual idealists, cultural creatives, ex-hippies, bohemians, treehuggers, peaceniks, holistic healers, pagans, armchair Buddhists and other alternative sorts -- share common beliefs, ideas and hopes, but not a common identity.

3. Because even though we idealists are 50 million strong, we often feel isolated and lonely as we move along our individual paths.

4. Because even though we idealists are 50 million strong, we barely exist in the realm of public discourse, and are woefully ineffective at bringing about change.  (See the 2004 re-election of George W. Bush.)

5. Because I took on “New Age” as my spiritual identity as a teenager and it served me well and I want it back.

6. Because I know that spiritual idealism is the only antidote to the soulless materialism and intolerant dualism that is driving our society ever closer to insanity and self-destruction.

7. Because I brought children into this world and I want to do everything I can to give them a hopeful future.

8. Because I can’t do it alone.
