Darkness and Scattered Light

"Darkness and Scattered Light" is the title of a 1978 book by William Irwin Thomspons and it is very appropriate for the times we have been going through. On the dark side we have seen wars, ecological crisis, economic collapse, false religion, political irrelevance, and other signs of the end of an era.  On the other hand there have always been among us lightworkers who have held fast to the visions of a better world and have been striving for its fulfillment in word and deed.  That fulfillment has been referred to as a New Age.

I have been publishing Both Sides Now: A Journal of Lightworking, Peacemaking & Consciousness since the late 1970s.  My own New Age consciousness began with reading There is a River by Thomas Sugrue, the first biography of Edgar Cayce, a most remarkable psychic.  I was just out of college at the time and the book had recently been published.  Up to that time, I was a sort of humanist, but the book presented such overwhelming evidence of other dimensions via psychic phenomena that my worldview was completely turned around.  Many others have had a similar experience from reading this book.

Once the doors of perception have been opened, synchronicities start to happen, and related information started coming my way.  Most particularly, other books that attracted my attention contributed to my developing worldview.  Cayce had already referred to a coming New Age, but The Magic of Findhorn by Paul Hawken told us that the New Age was already happening in prototype at a remote village in northern Scotland.  Other significant influences have been The Tarot by Paul Foster Case and A Course in Miracles-- all of which illuminated the existence of other dimensions and pointed the way to much more profound spiritual understandings.  A main motivation for continuing to publish Both Sides Now is the sharing of such insights as they come to us.
